Soca Karaoke: Where Generations Unite, Celebrating Caribbean Culture in London

Introducing the vibrant atmosphere of Soca Karaoke:

I never thought I was a karaoke person, that was until I had the pleasure of attending Soca Karaoke— an event that transcends age barriers and brings together the Caribbean community of Soca loving people, Co-Founded by Liam and DJ Triple M. As someone who can be a bit reserved in new environments, I was immediately drawn by the warm and familiar atmosphere. Since launching SICKA SESSIONS, I had made some new friends on Twitter, whom I had just met IRL that day, and their friends had already made it their business to take me under their wing for the evening.

I spoke to Liam, the Co-Founder of Soca Karaoke who says: “The aim is to create a Sunday BBQ vibe packed with everyone you love and people you won't forget.”

The All-Ages Affair:

Soca Karaoke isn't just for the youngings or Aunties and Uncles—it's for everyone. While the age policy is 18+, it's not uncommon to find guests ranging from young adults to our respected elders of the community, with attendees as seasoned as 60+ joining in the festivities. This inclusivity speaks volumes about the universal appeal of Soca music and the welcoming nature of the Soca Karaoke community, making this an event suitable for the family as well as the group chat (we love the versatility).

Production Brilliance and Milestones:

At Soca Karaoke, each performer is treated like a Soca superstar, with dynamic lighting, and special effects such as confetti enhancing their moment in the spotlight. The atmosphere is electrifying, with attendees feeling like they're stepping onto the stage of a sold-out show alongside Soca royalty. Cutouts of the King of Soca Machel Montano and Queen of Bacchanal Destra Garcia add to the excitement, further immersing participants in the world of Soca music.

The ‘stage’ where performers sing their chosen Soca hit is squared off by the crowd, creating an intimate yet not intimidating atmosphere, reminiscent of a family gathering where everyone feels like they belong.

It's no wonder that the March edition marked Soca Karaoke's first sold-out show—a testament to its growing popularity and the dedication of its organisers. And this success is just the beginning, as the team behind Soca Karaoke has plans to take the event across the UK and beyond.

Interactive Delights and Community Spirit:

While the focus is undeniably on the performers, Soca Karaoke is also about fostering a sense of community and shared joy. In the middle of the stage, there’s a massive screen showing the lyrics which allows the audience to sing along with their favourite Soca hits, creating an atmosphere of togetherness. Whether you're on stage or in the crowd, there's an overwhelming sense of support and camaraderie that makes Soca Karaoke feel like more than just a karaoke night—it's a family reunion of sorts, where strangers become friends and memories are made.

Looking Ahead:

As I reflect on my experience at Soca Karaoke, I'm filled with excitement for what the future holds. With its inclusive atmosphere, top-notch production values, and unwavering dedication to spreading the joy of Soca music, Soca Karaoke is poised to become a cultural phenomenon not just in the UK, but across the globe. And for anyone who's ever been hesitant to step out of their comfort zone and embrace new experiences, I can confidently say: Soca Karaoke is the place to be.

As a Soca lover since childhood thanks to my Grenadian heritage, the temptation to perform my own edition of Denise Belfon’s Wining Queen got the best of me. The rum punch had definitely kicked in by then so be warned because the music will take over!

Closing Note: Soca Karaoke's Anthem of Unity

In a world where divisions seem to grow wider every day with diaspora wars, Soca Karaoke stands as a shining example of the power of music to bring people together. Across generations, backgrounds, and walks of life, Soca Karaoke unites us in a shared love of music and Caribbean culture. So whether you're a seasoned Soca enthusiast or a curious newcomer, get your tickets to the next edition on June 1st and prepare to be swept away by the magic of Soca Karaoke.

Special shoutout to the founding members: LJ, Triple, Gemma Anique, LP, Worlmag, Tubbs, TFR, Panman, Dem Drones.
